چکیده

The main objective of this paper is to propose a framework for modelling, analysing and synthesizing system safety of engineering systems or projects on the basis of a generic rule-based inference methodology using the evidential reasoning (RIMER) approach. The framework is divided into two parts. The first one is for fuzzy rule-based safety estimation, referred to as a fuzzy rule-based evidential reasoning (FURBER) approach. The second one is for safety synthesis using the evidential reasoning approach. In the FURBER framework, parameters used to define the safety level, including failure rate, failure consequence severity and failure consequence probability are described using fuzzy linguistic variables; a fuzzy rule base designed on the basis of a belief structure is used to capture uncertainty and nonlinear relationships between these three parameters and the safety level; and the inference of the rule-based system is implemented using the evidential reasoning algorithm. Then the following steps involve synthesizing safety at higher levels of an engineering system to integrate all possible causes to a specific technical failure, or estimates made by a panel of experts. The synthesis is also based on the evidential reasoning approach. The final step describes the analysis and interpretation of the final synthesized safety of a system. The above framework has been applied to modelling system safety of an offshore and marine engineering system: the floating production storage offloading (FPSO) system. A series of case studies of collision risk between a FPSO and a shuttle tanker due to technical failure during a tandem offloading operation is used to illustrate the application of the proposed model. A Safety-Cost Based Design-Decision Support Framework Using Fuzzy Evidential Reasoning Approach

This paper illustrates a subjective safety-cost based design-decision support framework using fuzzy logic and evidential reasoning approaches. The framework is divided into three parts. The first one is for safety analysis and synthesis including fuzzy rule-based safety estimation using the fuzzy rule-based evidential reasoning (FRB-ER) approach, as well as the safety synthesis using the eviden...

Using Fuzzy Evidential Reasoning for Multiple Assessment Fusion in Spondylarthropathic Patient Self-management

This paper proposes an approach for an ICT-supported medical assessment, by mergingmeasures of signs and symptoms from heterogeneous sources. The disease status estimate of patients that suffer from spondylarthropathy is evaluated with different types of uncertainties using a fuzzy rule-based evidential reasoning (FURBER) approach. The approach treats measures of signs and symptoms in order to ...

Detecting Local Inconsistency and Incompleteness in Fuzzy Rule Bases

Fuzzy rule bases are built of linguistic, qualitative knowledge. By using fuzzy rules we are able to specify simple models of complex systems. But, we have to pay a price for this simpliication. In general, fuzzy knowledge is gradually incomplete and gradually inconsistent. This paper deals with the detection of such partial gaps of knowledge or local contradictions. In order to do so we introd...

Comprehensive Decision Modeling of Reverse Logistics System: A Multi-criteria Decision Making Model by using Hybrid Evidential Reasoning Approach and TOPSIS (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In the last two decades, product recovery systems have received increasing attention due to several reasons such as new governmental regulations and economic advantages. One of the most important activities of these systems is to assign returned products to suitable reverse manufacturing alternatives. Uncertainty of returned products in terms of quantity, quality, and time complicates the decis...
